1980, Beirut, Líbano

Tarek Atoui es un artista y compositor que trabaja en el ámbito del performance y la composición sonoros. Su obra desafía las formas tradicionales de percibir el sonido y se enfoca en la capacidad del medio para actuar como catalizador de interacciones humanas, mientras explora su relación con realidades sociales, históricas y políticas actuales. La obra de Atoui a menudo se desarrolla en performances colaborativos a gran escala derivados de una amplia investigación sobre historia de la música y antropología. El artista diseña instrumentos complejos e ingeniosos, organiza y cura conciertos, performances, salas de escucha y talleres.

Atoui también es representado por Chantal Crousel en Francia y Vitamine Creative Space en China

piano and cello strings are mounted on a plexiglass frame in a way inspired by the japanese koto instrument

5 church organ pipes are also mounted into the frame, they receive compressed air to produce crystalline sounds

the pipe koto has an intricate system of microphones mounted into it, these pick up the sound of the strings and the pipes to merge them and create a unique palette of timbers and sounds
