A new Brazilian phone number has been established for Dial-A-Poem Brazil. Just make a call, at anytime, and hear one of 181 new recordings by 54 Brazilian poets, artists, researchers, and writers reading in Portuguese, Ticuna, Guajajara, Baniwa, and German—all languages spoken in Brazil.
Inspired by John Giorno's iconic Dial-A-Poem (1968), Giorno Poetry Systems has worked with international partners to produce new editions of Dial-A-Poem around the world, where poets, artists, musicians, and activists read in languages native to their country.
After Dial-A-Poem Mexico and Dial-A-Poem France (both launched in 2022 and both still active today) comes Dial-A-Poem Brazil, produced with coleção moraes-barbosa, in São Paulo, which will be the permanent home for the project. Curated by Marcela Vieira, Dial-A-Poem Brazil uses a thematic framework related to eroticism—and explores how contemporary voices imagine and reinvent the erotic via language and performance.
A physical Dial-A-Poem Brazil phone is available for use at coleção moraes-barbosa's public gallery space in São Paulo. But all recordings are also accessible by phone, anytime: +55 11 5039 1344. When calling from within Brazil, the toll-free number is 0800-01-POEMA (76362).
