For this solo exhibition Ana Segovia presents a 7m installation that envisions an imagined 80s dance film with queer protagonists. Through a series of vibrant paintings, the artist explores the absence of queer narratives within the dance film genre of the era.
Inspired by iconic 80s dance movies like Footlooseand Dirty Dancing, these works evoke the nostalgia of the era. They are suspended on a dynamic, set-like wooden structure, challenging conventional ideas about the nature of painting, film and art in general.
The project prompts reflection on cultural gaps and untold stories, urging viewers to reconsider historical representation within mainstream cinema. It invites us to explore the intersection of art, cinema, and cultural memory, as we reimagine narratives and contemplate the potential for reclaiming untold stories form the past.
