Challenging notions of nationhood, place, and belonging, Petrit Halilaj. Runik is the artist’s first exhibition in Latin America. For Halilaj (Kosovo, 1986), art has not only been the vehicle through which to travel and learn about the world, but also a medium through which he can express and explore complicated emotions about the history of his homeland and his queer self. Over the course of the years, his work has amassed a strong political agency in the young country of Kosovo, where he has become an active cultural spokesperson. While now living in Berlin, the artist maintains strong roots in Kosovo and close ties to Italy. Much like his imagined creatures, Halilaj has learned to make a home wherever he feels a connection.
