exhibition | adrián villar rojas in magical realism

Adrián Villar Rojas is part of the exhibition Magical Realism: Imagining Natural Dis/order is an exhibition at WIELS, featuring over thirty artists who explore new ways of relating to the planet. Inspired by the genre of magical realism, where myth and magic meet reality, the show opens imaginative paths in response to environmental and social crises like monocultures, climate change, and precarious living.

The exhibition invites deeper engagement with the complex interconnections of the biosphere. Through painting, film, sound, and installation, the artworks explore themes ranging from cosmic phenomena to urban decay, bacterial life to geological processes.Artists reimagine ecosystems and question dominant ideas of nature, seeking meaning in dreams, materiality, and lived experience. Magical Realism reflects on how reconnecting magic and reason can help us heal a fractured relationship with the Earth, socially, aesthetically, and scientifically.

Villar Rojas present The End of Imagination an otherworldly fusion of everyday objects with unexpected life forms, plays host to mutant living and non-living parasites. The entire sculpture is a readymade that contains all, making it the container of containers, and not only transform mundane human-made objects but also imbue them with a new essence, exploring the intersection of technology, biology, and art.
