Balada de un hablador is a four-act comedy that explores human relationships from the perspectives of psychoanalysis, family ties, social relationships and self-revelation. Through the interplay of a psychologist, his patient, and the psychologist's daughter, the play illustrates how attraction to what is conventionally forbidden is driven by instinct, emotion, and repression.
The play is staged on a symbolic set that transcends realism. Blending acid humour with psychological tension, the play unveils the way in which life's misunderstandings and emotional turmoil propel the characters towards irrefutable truths, rendering any attempt at rational control futile. The plot follows Juan, a young lawyer undergoing psychoanalysis to cope with the tragic death of his mother. During therapy, he begins to uncover the traumas, complexes and family secrets that have plagued him since childhood. As his past is revealed, his present relationships become increasingly complex, demonstrating the influence of unconscious desires on everyday life.
Balada de un hablador is presented by Colección Isabel y Agustín Coppel (CIAC) in collaboration with Coordinación Nacional de Teatro and el Jardín Escénico.
