Adrián Villar Rojas presents Sometimes you wonder, in an interconnected universe, who is dreaming who ?, a special project conceived for tank shanghai that brings together sculptures from the the theater of disappearance series. Presented as a sequence of exhibitions around the world, this project was shown throughout 2017-2018 at the roof garden commission at the metropolitan museum, kunsthaus bregenz, the NEON Foundation at the National Observatory in Athens, and the geffen contemporary at MOCA The Angels. Loan and loan of the artist's own production inventory, the series originates from previous projects, such as planetarium (Sharjah Biennial 12, 2015), the most beautiful of all mothers (Istanbul Biennial, 2015) and rinascimento (Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, Torino, 2016).
For his first solo project in China, Villar Rojas and his studio have produced works of art united in a genealogy that uncovers the long and winding path through time and space of the origins of each work of art. The sculptures have been extracted from the integral environment created by Villar Rojas at the time of the theater of disappearance series, and have been brought together as signifiers of interconnection, history, reality and what the viewer can imagine as a possible alternative for the future . The sculptural work in Sometimes you wonder, in an interconnected universe, who is dreaming who? traces the chronology of their origins through the materials from which they are made and the physical and mental landscapes to which they refer. A complete visual map of the exhibition and the concepts it covers (in the form of a brochure) provide the keys to reading and navigating Villar Rojas' creative process.
