Abraham Cruzvillegas’s vibrant artistic practice begins with the concept of autoconstrucción—loosely defined as “self-construction,” an idea rooted in transformation, exchange, and play. During the exhibition, a series of site-specific, assemblage sculptures will be enlivened through music, performances, workshops, cooking, storytelling, art making, skateboarding, and more, in “activations” led by the artist’s collaborators from Mexico City and invited community partners from Austin.
This exhibition is co-organized by Heather Pesanti, Chief Curator & Director of Curatorial Affairs, The Contemporary Austin, and Heidi Zuckerman, Nancy and Bob Magoon CEO and Director, Aspen Art Museum.
