press: kurimanzutto: 25 years of starting from zero

José Kuri grew up admiring art, especially Gabriel Orozco, a young artist who recognized himself as such in a world with no room for contemplation, and with whom he lived as a teenager. However, it was not until 1997 that their paths crossed: Kuri was studying a master's degree in Public Policy and International Economics at Columbia University and Monica Manzutto in Cultural Studies at New York University. Orozco suggested they open a gallery in Mexico: "Gabriel has a very broad vision and he is very good at seeing the possibilities in people. I think the intention was to do something new, from scratch, and he saw in Monica and me the potential to do so," said Kuri. Almost 25 years later, with a gallery in Mexico City, another in New York and more than 100 exhibitions, they remain faithful to their beginnings and ideals.
