Ana Segovia (Mexico City, 1991)
Ana Segovia produces images through paintings that subvert the heteronormativity of popular imaginaries. The artist revisits mythical scenes and figures from industries like film and sports, reconfiguring their hegemonic role as idealized models of masculinity. An intimate connection to cinema constantly inspires and drives him to transgress norms. Segovia takes familiar images from the Golden Age of Mexican cinema and the Western genre, intervening in their forms, altering their tonalities, and dislocating them. It’s in this disruption where he reveals the montage, artifice, and the performativity in constructing gender and national identities.

Bárbara Sánchez-Kane (Mérida, Mexico, 1987)
Under the figure of the macho sentimental, Bárbara Sánchez-Kane resists the traditional notions of mexicanidad and its relationship with the feminine and masculine. Whether through fashion, performance, painting or installation, all of her works present the anxieties and fears of daily life to question pleasure and domination within a hegemonic masculine society.

WangShui (Dallas, TX, 1986)
WangShui’s work explores divergent structures of perception. Through video, sculpture, painting and installation, they examine the psychosomatic loops that form our experience of the world. The artist’s practice integrates diverse personal experiences and research into desire, architecture and media. A central theme in their work is liminality and its radical potential as a form of resistance. WangShui often addresses the latent space of images and materials as a way to activate the hallucinatory states between detail and distance, transparency and opacity, knowing and unknowing.
